HOW WE SOURCE

Carefully chosen, not simply acquired.

YSF is building a small, carefully curated collection of violins, violas and cellos. We actively seek out instruments with quality, character and musical potential — instruments we believe can genuinely support a young player as they develop.

We don't buy simply by name, age or price. Every instrument is considered individually. Some will already be exceptional; others may have qualities waiting to be revealed through careful setup, the right strings and thoughtful preparation.

  • PREPARE

    INSTRUMENT POTENTIAL

    Every instrument is carefully assessed and professionally prepared. Bridge, soundpost, fingerboard, fittings and condition are considered together, with adjustments made where they can improve playability, response and sound.

    VOICE

    FINDING THE RIGHT CHARACTER

    We then experiment with strings and setup, listening for the combination that allows the instrument to perform at its best. Warmth, clarity, projection and response all matter — because an instrument is only ready when it feels as good to play as it sounds.
