Help us put the right instrument in the right hands

GIVE FINANCIAL SUPPORT

Building a collection is only the beginning. Every instrument needs to be prepared, protected and cared for throughout its working life.

Financial support helps us acquire instruments, fund specialist work, provide strings and fittings, insure and maintain the collection, and keep instruments playing for years to come.

HELP THE NEXT GENERATION PLAY

There are many ways to support YSF - from giving an instrument a new purpose to helping us prepare, maintain and place exceptional instruments with promising young musicians.

GIVE AN INSTRUMENT

A good string instrument can last for generations. Yet many spend years in cupboards, cases and collections after their owners stop playing.

YSF can give the right instruments a new purpose - professionally assessed, carefully prepared and placed with a promising young musician who is ready to make the most of them.

GIVE YOUR EXPERTISE

YSF depends on people who understand young musicians and string instruments.

Teachers, performers, makers, restorers and other specialists can help us identify talent, assess instruments, prepare our collection and make thoughtful matches between musicians and instruments.

We welcome donations of violins, violas and cellos that deserve to be played again. Whether a treasured family instrument or simply one no longer being used, YSF can give it a new purpose.

HOW WE MANAGE DONATED INSTRUMENTS

  • We ask for a few details and photographs, along with any available instrument history.

  • We consider if the instrument could be suitable, assess its condition and estimate any work that may be required.

  • If accepted, we arrange collection and agree any special wishes - for example, naming the instrument within the collection.

  • Any necessary work is carried out before the instrument is insured and prepared for use.

  • We work with teachers and musicians to find the right young musician for the instrument.

  • With the family's consent, we let the donor know when their instrument has found its first YSF musician.
